[ Portrait (Under Water) ; Peter Doig (2007) ].....

Abstraction
--Derek Walcott

We imagine that we can hear what certain painters
heard as they worked: Pollock the cacophony of traffic,
O'Keefe the engines of certain lilies, Bearden
cornets muffled in velvet, Peter Doig the
brooding, breeding silence of deep bush,
the chuckle of lagoon, the soundless
coupling of butterflies, the green thickness
that is there in Conrad and Marryat
or the rusty hinge of a century turning--
sounds that surround the work of Peter Doig.

This post and the two prior were taken from Morning, Paramin. by Derek Walcott and Peter Doig (Farrar, Straus and Giroux; 2016). A collaborative effort combining artwork from Doig and ekphrastic  responses from Walcott. A gorgeous book worthy of precious shelf space.
