Last night a week of 90 plus degree temperatures finally lifted. Not through the usual crashing thunderstorms but instead, with an immense horizon of heat lightning that set billowing clouds ablaze with magnetic bolts of white-fire, flashing with majestic silhouettes of cumulonimbus towers while accented by the impetuous, violent, blinding currents. I had no idea such a display was taking place until I set out on a walk shortly before midnight. And it did not take long to find awe from the silent display of power in this scene as it was the contrast of the lack of any audible recognition that created its truly spectacular dimension. Beyond any sort of thunderous old testament claim but rather, with a calm awesomeness like what can be found in the swirling heights about an unmovable mountain peak or when imaging the initial ionic stirrings off in a distant galaxy that will eventually form into the solidity of a new planet. Down in the valley of the neighborhood, the evening continued on with its usual brocade of nightlife, including the passing wale of an ambulance siren that made my head ring. When I got home, about the porch were hintings from the first crickets of the season in appreciation.
